    I started working in Publix 5 years now. When I started working it was very exciting for me. When I was working as a cashier there everyone was a teamplayer and work good. I was a role model cashier. Because they don’t give full time for cashiers I trasfered to bakery thinking like i will get fulltime job. Now they are saying they don’t hire bakery clerk’s full time. They never give me chance to learn anything either in the bakery. I want to stay with the company and i want to move up. I am looking forward for that. The way things are going in the bakery it is getting very discouraged.

      Would you be interested in a Decorator or Baker position? There are fulltime opportunities in those job classes.

        I’m interested in being a decorator ,but I don’t know if its for the Publix I’m closest too or not. I’m currently going to school for a bachelor in art, decorating a cake sounds like something I’d throughly enjoy doing.

            Well I did fill out an application for it today in person and my city is Antioch. I met the manager of the bakery Stacy she took down my info. I couldn’t find a way to check through the website where exactly the positions were open like which stores needed this or that.

    Make sure you show up extra, EXTRA early for the initial interview because the hiring manager I dealt with was overly rude about being a few minutes, even 1 minute late. I got to the warehouse 10-15 minutes before my interview and was held up by multiple semi-trucks pulling in as well. Then I had to wait for the security guard to check me in, make a phone call, give me an ID badge and then proceeds to give me horrible directions on where to park. Then I was stopped by another security guard because the confirmation email with instructions for the interview told me to go to the wrong gate (Gate 10 when It should have said Gate 9). Once I spotted the building I was looking for I had to turn back around because there was only 1 opening to the parking lot I needed to park in. Once I finally got parked it was right at my interview appointment time so I rushed in and signed in, according to my time, 1 minute late. I followed the instructions posted and sat down in the waiting room for at least 10 minutes. I heard some men outside the room talking so I stood up expecting to be greeted and actually made eye contact with 1 of them through the door window but they walked away. After waiting a few more minutes I got concerned and decided to try to find someone to talk to. Right around the corner of the waiting room I found the office of the hiring manager whose name was on the interview confirmation e-mail. I was quite surprised to see it was the same person I had just made eye contact with a few minutes earlier and was confused to why would he not have come and talked to me when he saw me in the waiting room area? I asked if I was in the right place and had the right time because I already had my first interview canceled for some unknown reason and was given this interview date and time instead. He told me I did but the interview had come and passed because I was so late. I explained I had been waiting in the other room because that’s what the interview sign’s stated to do. He said I was way too late and there’s nothing he could do. I tried to explain I was just 1 minute, a few minutes late due to the problems pulling in and getting parked. He asked what kind of car I was driving and proceeded to tell me he saw me pulling in and I was 10-15 minutes late at that point, which was completely false. I was nice the whole time and tried to talk him into doing a quick short interview but he would not stating “it would not be fair to me or the next person being interviewed.” His next interview was not even there yet and he told me I would have to set up another interview. I was pretty shocked about his attitude because the whole time we talked he wasn’t even looking me in the eye and, to be perfectly honest, was rude. I kept being respectful, shook his hand and left. I thought to myself right then if this is how I am going to be treated just during the interview process I will most definitely not be pursuing the job further. Which is unfortunate because I was always told Publix would be a good place for me to further my warehouse career because I am a very hard working young man and have a unmistakably strong work ethic. I was not even going to complain or even pursue the opportunity further. But I just received an email thanking me for coming in for the interview but they have decided to pursue other candidates. WHAT INTERVIEW? I was never even given the chance for an interview. So basically after that nice long rant if your still reading show up very early for the interview and hopefully you won’t get the same hiring manager I had.

    Hello my name is Terrance and I’m 15 years old and I was wondering what’s the chances of me getting a job at publix. I am a very motivated talented person. I can do multiple things at once and a very sociable person. I strive for my goals and that’s one of my goals to achieve. So if yo can just direct me in the right place it would be great.       I apologize for the delay in responding to you. I sent an answer to you last week but it appears that it never went out.
      We welcome your interest in Publix and would welcome your application. Here is information on the application process:
      We do hire 15-year-olds, but only a few in each store.
      To increase your chances of being hired, please talk to the manager at the store where you apply to briefly describe why you would make a great Publix associate.
      Consider doing the same at nearby Publix stores since the managers there will be able to see your application.

            Sorry I was meaning to say every time I go there the managers are both there and also if I go there or call they say there are not hiring I live in south Florida and I’m still trying to figure out what I really got to do

      We have different protocols for different positions. We do hire some felons, depending on what their crime was, how long ago it occurred, and what position they seek. We can’t reveal anything more than that. Sorry.

      It is great to hear you want to come back to Publix! The openings in our stores change so quickly that we don’t have a website listing all of the openings. Your best bet is to visit your favorite store and apply at the Job Application Center kiosk. There is one located in each Publix. You only have to apply at one store. The stores in your area have access to the application. Once you apply, talk briefly with managers at the stores where you would like to work, explaining why you would make a great Publix associate. Then ask if they expect any openings in the near future. Remember to keep your application current by refreshing it every 30 days.

    Hey Ms Patti!

    well i used to work for publix for like 3 years in 5 months at the store location in Miami #073 as a cashier i used to love working there as a publix associate , but i had left Miami when i was leaving a had give my manager a letter say that i was leaving because i had to go to school somewhere else , now i decide to come back to the same store as a cashier again , i would like to know if they need cashier at the moment? or should they just give me back the position ? and are they going to make start all over again or keep going with the years i was there ?

      You would have to ask the Customer Service Manager at that store what is available. The stores make their own determinations about when to hire. If you have been gone for more than 6 months, you will need to start over as far as benefits are concerned.

    hello I became a convicted felon recently I would like to know if I have a opportunity of obtaining a job at one of my local warehouse
    a lot of family and friends tell me that Publix consume a background check but being a felon is not a big deal how far back do they check your background before they offer you a job because I would love to work for thrvcompany it’s a great place to work with opportunity to advance and great benifits.

      Thank you for your interest in working at Publix. We do hire some people in our Distribution Centers who have been convicted of a felony. The key is which felony. Our Criminal Background Check rules out those with cerrtain felonies and accepts those with other felonies. We don’t release information on which ones are the eliminators but it’s fair to say that the level of violence involved is key.

        Hi patty you said that you do hire felons I do have a felony(for fighting at the movies when I was 16) but it is considered a battery I am now 25 have a real estate license and would like to work at Publix would this be a possibility?

          Thank you for your interest in Publix! We have different protocols for working in stores vs offices vs distribution centers and manufacturing plants. The simplest protocols are in distribution and manufacturing, so I encourage you to consider those openings first. We do hire felons but the level of violence involved is key.

    Hi Patti

    I’m helping my father with his application in a distribution position. He has one DUI on his record from 10 years ago. Since then he has worked in a similar job for a different company for almost 10 years. The application outright asks about DUI convictions, and I’ve never seen that on an application before. Should he bother applying?

        hi patty my name is Paul and I was hired as seasonal and seasons over April 3rd. store manager said he wants to hire me back as a cashier. my question is I have been through the background check for seasonal employment and passed now they will let me go and hire me back. I have a felony with adjudication witheld. Will they run another backround check?? If so will I be turned down for different position or being hired on as regular associate??

          Hi Paul,

          Thank you for working with Publix during the winter season! I’m responding as the new Manager of Talent Acquisition as Patti has retired.

          If you are rehired after the season, then a background check will be run again. We have a specific department that deals with background checks, and they tell the store whether the background check has been successfully passed or not, and then the store will notify you. If for some reason the background check comes back unsuccessful, then you will also be notified by mail, and have the opportunity to dispute the findings.

          We can’t speak on background checks that haven’t been run yet, so I’m not sure what your outcome will be. Just be sure to apply at the Job Application Center starting Monday, April 13, and then await the results of the background check for further information.

    hello ms.patti i recieved a felony ten years ago for theft by employee but its not what it sounds like im currently in the process of getting my record expunged. i was wondering bring that im going threw the process of getting it taking care of i was wondering if it would stop me from getting a job in the distribution center if you could please get back to me asap it would be greatly appreciated.i am certified in surf safe and i have 3 years of working in a food production plant thank you for your time and i look forward to hearing from you

      Patti is retired and I’m the new Manager of Talent Acquisition. I’m not sure if the background check would eliminate you from further consideration if you applied. If you feel that your record will be clear soon, then it may make sense to apply once that process is complete.

    Hi I currently have a felony and am on probation until April 2016 I have experience I’m 27 and have been working in grocery since 18 I was wondering will I be eliminated cause i currently still have a felon on my report. I see you all do hire some but Im just wondering about minds ?

      It’s hard to comment on possible results of a background check without knowing the crime and when it occurred. You can call our Employee Assistance Program department at 863-688-1188 extension 52005 and they may be able to provide you with more information.

    How far does Publix go back on a background check? I have a misdemeanor from over 20 years ago. And I have not had any issue since then, I was a teenager when it happened.

      We conduct criminal background checks, but not until a job offer has been made and accepted and we do not have information on the length of time they go back. What I would suggest is that you include the information about this misdemeanor on your application. It will reflect that you are honest and open — always a good thing when seeking a job.     Hi. I’m pleased to say that I’ve been offered a position to work at the warehouse. But the problem is that the pay rate that was on the application isn’t the pay rate I will receive. It is a lot less than what was enitially stated. How do I go about disputing this? Or should I even say anything? It is a significant difference. I really want to work for Publix but with my experience I feel like I should get more than is offered. I haven’t spoken to anyone and I have an appointment it a couple of days to formally get offered in person. Should I bring it up then or should I call immediately? Thank you for your help…

      They run a full background check, but only if you have been selected for an interview and completed a good interview. If you have something in your record, your best bet is to be upfront and honest about it all. Good luck!

    Hello I wanted to know how what’s the hiring process with Publix cause I went on 2 interviews one in Deerfield fl and then Lakeland fl I’m not understanding I felt out the same jobs selector I worked on both applications they called me in for interview both gentleman kept second guessing have you did physical laborer before I don’t know why it’s it because I’m 4″10 I just find it very very difficult to get into Publix when I left them I was already feeling I didn’t get the job EVEN thou they both said you have an wonderful work background but I seem to get this email to keep applying now they have openings and I’m going to try again hopefully it’s not an Men interviewing me because I didn’t feels as if the job was going to be mine with the Experience I had I’m not a saying men are bad I personally didn’t like my experience with those two hiring managers when you come to a job your confident when you leave you wanna feel the same… My Experience my thoughts☺️

      Hi Shenika, we receive several hundred applications for many of our corporate, distribution and manufacturing openings. Only a handful are invited to interview for each opening.     Good Morning Maura,
    First off I would like to thank you for taking the time out to read this message.In 2009 was convicted of a felony and I applied at a local store here in Tampa, FL in 2012. I went in for an interview and was given a job offer but I did not pass the background check. I was upfront and honest with the manager that was interviewing with me which is why she offered me the job. What i want to know is should I try to apply again or would i be turned down since I did not pass the background check in 2012?

    If the store managers @563 in Anderson,SC, were they are having a job fair, would treat their employees with dignity and respect the way they are taught to they would not need a job fair. It is sad how unfair and disrespectful they treat quality employees.

    If they were treating their employees like Publix use to they would not lose any quality employees. The pay is great but they only give their friends promotions and good raises.

    It is different in FL. SC district is horrible!!!!!

    Yes, all that open door policy doesn’t work. They tell you they are sick of hearing complains then demote or take hours away. Most people are scared to say anything because of the ramifications.
    I would love to work there but I can deal with the stress the put you through. Send a decent set of fair managers and I will apply.

    I got called today for a interview at publix and i have a third degree theft at walmart in 09 i did right it on the application my question is do they do back ground before interview or after

    I was recently hired for a position part-time in the produce department. I was to start Orientation and then return the next day for computer work at the store. Well the day before orientation I came down with a sore throat and had stomach problems. I waited this cold to pass, but unfortunately it did not not pass by the next day. I called at 7 am Saturday morning to ask what should I do with the symptoms, and should I still come to orientation. The assistant manager was the only individual available to guide me in the situation as of what to do. He said he didn’t know what to do and he would call me back. I never heard anything back from him. Monday I was still weak and in bed pretty much that whole day. I saw Publix called my phone the next day. I tried to return the call all week until finally I was connected to the Produce Manager. He told me he didn’t like the fact that I called that morning and wasn’t feeling well on Orientation day and that was a bad first impression, even after going through all the steps. He then went on to say he would have to speak to the head manager about retaking the orientation. But he never did that and went ahead and just said to me during that very call, “we just don’t have the hours for you and you should just try the deli.” I was extremely disappointed knowing I went through all those steps, and just be told,”we don’t have the hours for you.” I had to sign documentation to promise to advise someone if I had a sore throat or diarrhea. So even with calling ahead and communicating I was punished for being straight forth and honest!? I’m furious about this and I turned down other jobs for this position and yet the manager just went about his day and left me with no direction. Is this proper procedure for a future employee even though they are ill and honest? Thanks

    Hi. I was working with Publix for two years when I ran into some legal trouble. I have been trying to come back to the company and received a job offer at a store today. Will my felony background hinder me from getting the job at Publix? Is there a certain way they score out charges?

      It all depends on the situation, Shelby. Your best bet is to mention it to the manager at the hiring store ahead of his/her learning it from a background check.     My name is Angela Simpson And 2 weeks ago I interviewed with the store manager and was hired on the spot in Huntsville Al.I did the mouth swab and has been waiting every since, I call everyday and I have been told every time that the results haven’t came back yet. I was told by the store manager that my start date was 10/31 but now I’m being told I won’t be able to start until the results come in. I don’t use any drugs and I put my 2 week notice in at Walmart after tomorrow I’m no longer scheduled.

      Angela, it can take some time, but my best advice is that you stop back in to the store when possible and speak with the Manager / Assistant Store Manager to follow up. Congratulations on getting hired, by the way! You’re absolutely gonna love working for Publix! =)

    Hello Maura,

    I am so happy to have found this blog. I applied for two positions with Publix and received emails concerning completing a background check. I am really nervous because in 2009 I received a misdemeanor simple battery charge. I never got into any trouble before or after that incident. Do you think that it would hinder my chances? The position would work very well for my family and I due to the hours and the benefits. I would prefer to explain things to the hiring manager, but I am afraid that once I complete step 2 of 2, which is the criminal disclosure, they won’t even give me a chance. Please tell me if I should wait to complete the disclosure until someone (maybe) calls me for an interview. Please advise if you can because I am very anxious about this as I really would love to join the Publix family. Thanks, Sean

      Krashanna, it’s great that you were honest and mentioned it in your application. It will depend upon how long ago it occurred, the type of incident and how it relates to the position you applied for.

    Hello I was interviewed a month and haven’t heard anything in reference back that I wasn’t selected the position and my status has still been saying under consideration. Is there anyone I can contact about and see if I’m being furthered in the process I will love to be a part of the publix team

      Hi and thank you for your question and for considering Publix as your employer of choice! We receive several hundred applications for many of our corporate, distribution and manufacturing openings. Only a handful are invited to interview for each opening. You will be called if you are considered among the most qualified for an opening.

        Good afternoon Maura,

        I have 3 felonies on my background from 2010, Burglary of a dwelling, Theft, and criminal mischief. Does this disqualify me from being considered?
