Publix - Now HiringIn order to provide the premier customer service we are known for, Publix has to have a workforce of enthusiastic, committed associates who enjoy making people smile.  For this reason, we frequently hold application events,  job fairs, and career-related informational events in locations throughout our six-state footprint all the time.  Some events are held to hire associates for stores that are not yet open. Others are held to  hire our newest Publix associates for existing stores.  Informational events allow candidates and customers to “Meet the Manager” or “Meet the Recruiter” to learn details about job opportunities, the hiring process, and about working at Publix.

These events vary, as you’ve just seen by the examples listed above, and this blog entry will be updated frequently as new events are planned and old events are completed.  For that reason, it’s a good idea to bookmark this entry and check back from time to time to see what’s going on in terms of upcoming hiring events and informational events.

Before we list our events, though, here are a few points you’ll want to consider about working at Publix:

      Hi! That’s wonderful to hear. Your best bet is to head to your nearby store and apply. After applying, speak with a manager to let him or her know why you’d make a great Publix associate and ask if there are any openings in the job class(es) you are interested in. You can visit other nearby stores and speak with managers there too. Remember to update your application within each 30 day time frame to keep it active. Best of luck!

      Hi. I recently applied for the pricing coordinator position in Carolina Forest. I was told to apply for cashier since that job wasn’t a choice. I have 2 years experience in this position. Is there another way to apply for full time? Thank you

        No ma’am! To apply for any store job, you apply at the Job Application Center kiosk. You can reflect your available hours at that time. Keep in mind that the more night and weekend shifts you are able to work, the more attractive you will appear as a candidate to managers that are hiring. Best of luck, Linda!

      That’s wonderful to hear! They may not be hiring at this very moment, so be sure to return to the JAC and update your application within each 30 day cycle. It only takes about 3-5 minutes and it keeps your application active so that managers can view it. And when you return to update, stop in ad say hi to Marlene or another manager. It helps to put a name to a face so be sure to state your name clearly and spell it if it is a challenging one! Hope these tips help and fingers crossed for you.

    My son has applied to store 1267 at 8300 Bee Ridge Rd Sarasota, FL 34241-6312. it was understood that every 30 days he must re-submit his application. This past month he did such thing and he was also advised to speak to a manager. He did that also, but the person that he spoke to which said that he is an asst manager told him that they do not even look at applicants that are 14 years old. As per Publix policy you can apply at the age of 14. Unfortunately because of what he was told he is discouraged to go look for work, since “14 year old applications are not even looked at”. I am very disappointed with the store and how they treated my son by its (asst.) manger. I am sure my son will bounce back but what about that kid that can’t…. I hope this gets fixed.

    Hi, My name is Sean.

    I’ve applied for Publix & kept it active for a while (4 or 5 months). I’ve tried to keep it updated. I have over 10 years of customer service (bakery, customer service & Meat & Seafood (departments). The thing is I have cerebral palsy & I have been told by friends, co workers, guests alike that I’m good enough to join the publix team. The problem I have is, despite my best efforts to be visible & Intrested at 3 deferent stores for positions that are open in my area. I’m finding default to prove to the mangers there are more to me then my disability, even though I’ve heard that they have hired people like me. They put in a mini quiz at the beginning of the app that through me off, I was told that I had low scores but I feel that it doesn’t show what kind of worker i am. Cause I’ve always done the best I can with the limitations I got. I do have a problem with explaining myself which is more likely part of my disabilly. The main point I’m just trying to ask/make is despite my best efforts, is there anything I can do to help improve my chances? Cause my friends who work for publix who know me & my work ethic can only do so much. (putting in a good word for me)

      Hi Sean and thank you very much for your message. It sounds like you have a great deal of experience in working with the public. As for your cerebral palsy, your friends are right, Publix has been recognized nationally for its effort in employing people with physical disabilities, and recognizes employees with disabilities are part of the communities in which we operate and must be fully integrated into all aspects of the workplace. Regarding the assessment you mentioned, you can retake that each six months, but in the meantime, be sure to speak with managers at the store in which you applied and nearby stores (if there are any near you), and let them know you applied. Then recount your many years of experience and why you would make a great associate at Publix. Finally, managers look at the availability of candidates to work some nights and weekends since those are the busiest times within our stores. Be sure your application reflects you can work at least some of those shifts (if that is the case) and mention that when speaking with managers.         Thanks for the advice, I have tried to talk to acouple of them. How ever because I have a hard time explaining myself. I’m worried that I make bad impression. When actually I’m trying to make a good impression. I tried to show my flexibility (days/nights shifts) etc I have always been very flexabull when comes to work. It’s gets really hard to prove, I try to prove my self in the department/sales floor. When I get put in a department & trained they want me to work. That when I start to do good.

        As I said before that’s why I was asking if there was anything I can do to improve my chances. I appreciate your advice. Iike I said it gets hard to prove at times that there’s more to me then just my cerebral palsy.

My best advice is to continue with persistence and perhaps you can bring a paper document, like a resume, to give them each time which highlights your previous experience and skills.     Even the assessment test that is supposed to be sent.

      Our hiring managers often have to review many hundreds of applications and it can take some time – up to several weeks. The assessment test is not automatic, so and You will receive notification about the assessment and further steps in the process if you are considered among those candidates most qualified for the position.

    I currently work in store #852 and I have finished my bachelors in accounting. I plan to enroll in a masters of accounting program at FSU in the spring semester, so that I can be able to sit down for the CPA exam and receive my license. I’ve been working in Publix retail for four months now, and I can see myself working for Publix long term. My question is what route would I have to take, in order to get switched from retail to corporate?

    Hi my name is Keyshawn, I’ve applied for Publix’s in Saint Petersburg, Florida for 8 months. I’ve never got a reply from any of the store in the area including Gulfport ,Pinellas Park, and Treasure Island. If called around to all of the stores and they tell me the same thing! “Keep your application active”. But, they one of them say that they weren’t hiring and a dude I went in with applying got the a job? I just need help with figure out why somebody hasn’t called, I’m very smart and I’m skilled.

    I was once a Publix employee. I was bumped out by store closures in my area in Atlanta,GA a few years back. I was wondering is it possible to still get my job back? Or at least have an opportunity to get a new one some where else? I have an application in the system I’ve been keeping it active for years now. I have been working another job since then, but there no place like home. Publix is great, my wife works for the company now for about 15 years. I have been in contact with hr in Atlanta (Nina Gaines) she knows my situation. If I could be assisted in anyway please help. I am a Kaplan graduate with a bachelors in business. I love to work and serve others with a smile.

There are more than 1.5 million applications each year for about 40,000 openings at Publix so competition is intense. Reading that blog and understanding more about what Publix is about should help position you as a competitive candidate if an opening arises. Again, Best of luck!

    Hi,
    I have been looking for a job with the distribution center in Jacksonville, Fl. I see the Job fair above will come to Florida but in Alachua.. if I go there will they have openings for the Jacksonville area as well or just for the Alachua area?
    Also last night I saw 3 openings listed on a job site for the Selector position and when I went back this morning to upload my resume they were no longer listed. With further searching it seems they are still available but only for current employees. It seems weird since the current employees are.. well, already employed. Do you know when they will become available for the people currently searching? Thanks.

      Thank you for your interest in joining Publix’s family. The job fair being held in Alachua, Florida is an application event for candidates to apply to work in the store in Alachua. I suggest that you create a job search agent in your account profile on our Publix Jobs Center at http://www.publix.jobs/support. Doing that will keep you up to date on Distribution openings available in Jacksonville. You’ll receive an email when positions you’re interested in are posted. It’s important that as soon as you see a position, you apply to it right away because we had receive hundreds of applications for each job opening. Many of the jobs we open in Distribution are internal transfer/promotion opportunities. We post them on our internal Jobs Center which maybe you clicked into accidentally.     I would like to know if the only way to be hired at Publix is to apply for an hourly store position. I have a BA degree and would like to work for Publix in the Lawrenceville/Duluth area however when I visit your site I do not see any position for corporate positions or administrative opportunities. I have visited your distribution job sites too. The one closest to me is the Publix warehouse in Lawrenceville and there never seem to be any positions available. I hear from people that Publix is hiring but anytime I check on the site it never seems to be the case. Can you help me to get in touch with store here or perhaps a recruiter who can give me some pointers

      Thank you for your interest in Publix! We have divisional offices in each of our divisions for which we hire corporate or office staff; our Atlanta divisional offices are located in Marietta, GA. We do have office positions in our Distribution and Manufacturing plants that are located in our divisions, too. Publix is a promote-from-within company so divisional and Distribution office positions are usually filled through internal promotions. That’s probably why you’re not seeing any office positions posted. I recommend that you consider beginning your career at Publix in our stores. It is where many of our corporate executives have started their careers! We have two stores in Lawrenceville: Village Shoppes of Sugarloaf on Sugarloaf Parkway and Merton Walk on Duluth Highway. If you visit one of those stores, you can apply at the Job Application Center for a job within the store.       Hi! Sorry to hear you guys missed the hiring event. No worries, though! You have two options in regard to employment interest in our new store coming to Cullman :
      • You can apply at our Decatur, AL store or our Gardendale, AL store – please be sure to speak to a Store Manager before you leave (after you apply) and let them know that you are specifically interested in Cullman
      • You can apply at the Cullman store when it opens (currently scheduled for mid-October)

    I’m looking for a job in Miami Florida, 3rd time applying. i Spoke to the manager at the store i applied to but he said that there were no current openings and i’d have to wait about 2 weeks and check back in. anyway i can increase my odds of getting the job and make the wait time less? I really want this job.

      Hi Jason, as I noted in response to another comment of yours, you can increase your odds by checking with the managers at other nearby Publix stores. Many of our store associates are hired for stores other than the where ones they applied. Just be sure to let the manager you speak with know at which store you applied and be sure to keep your application active by returning to the JAC and updating it each 30 days. Otherwise, managers do not have access to it. I hope this helps and wish you the best of luck.

    I’ve applied to numerous positions for the corporate office in Lakeland, Florida and there always seems to be a delay with status updates. Each position I’ve applied to says considering but stays there for months. I’ve been trying to get into the marketing department, does Publix only like to hire from within? The application process with Publix hasn’t been the best for me.

      Hi and thank you for your message. The key to getting hired is to find a position where you meet ALL of the required qualifications and many or most of the preferred qualifications. Since you expressed an interest in (Marketing for example), you might want to go to our Careers section to view some of job descriptions of people in our (Marketing Department for example). Here’s the link: http://corporate.publix.com/careers/support-areas/corporate/departments/marketing. The more you can plan ahead and get the experience, education and skills you need for a position you want, the better your chances of getting hired.
      Browse through the job descriptions in other departments as well for ideas. As for the length of time it takes to hear on an application, I know it’s frustrating to want a job and not get called for an interview. We receive several hundred applications for many of our corporate, distribution and manufacturing openings. Only a handful are invited to interview for each opening. I hope this helps.

    Hello Ms. Satchell, I am going to a job fair. I was wondering I’m applying for a management position. My only experience is with Lowe’s as Dept manager 4 years and 3 years Assistant manager at McDonald’s. Servsafe certified. Plus I have a college degree. Do you think they would be interested in person like myself with this background. I know I have no grocery store experience.. Would that hurt me in the long run.       Bob Thompson, I apologize as I thought I responded to your message earlier but do not see it here. In any event, it’s great to hear you are interested in working for Publix. We are a promote-from-within company so we prefer to select our own associates over external candidates. Internal candidates already have extensive knowledge of our standards of excellence, our processes and our culture. Promoting from within also allows us to recognize associates for their hard work, their willingness and ability to learn new skills, and their desire to make Publix a career. However, to maintain our standards of excellence, we select the person who most closely meets both the required and preferred qualifications for each position, even if that is an external candidate. You can go to any of the stores in Gainesville and apply in person at the Job Application Center Kiosk there.     I live in Huntsville, Alabama and have filled out a application online. I visit the stores that are close to home asking for employment in any area but I prefer stocking. I enjoy moving a around, pending, and lifting. I would like part-time work am customer friendly and eager to help with a smile face.
    My application has been in your computer for 6 months and I will have to resubmit a new one soon. I would like to have a job soon so I will not have to submit another application in. It expires 8-31-2015

      Hi Olga, by applying “online” I take it to mean you have applied at one of our Job Application Center kiosks, is that correct? If that is so, it sounds like you are doing the right things by visiting the stores. Be sure to ask to speak with a manager as it helps to put a face with a name.     Hello there Maura,

    I have looked at past comments and it seems you are in charge of replying, so hello, I hope you are doing well. I have been with Publix for the past five years and I have an interest in advancing into corporate, rather than retail management. I am grocery and have experience in all facets of the department and am relied on for many responsibilities. I was offered GTL but turned it down and also took my assistant grocery test. However, as I said, my interest is not in retail but in corporate, human resources specifically. I am working on my Psychology degree now and realize that many, if not majority, of positions require a degree, but I would like to get my start in the EAP (Employee Assistance Program). Which requires no degree in this specific job title, while still providing a great service for people who are struggling. I just transferred to #226 three weeks ago, in Johns Creek, Georgia, for my next adventure. However, I constantly check the Publix Jobs Center to see if there are any HR positions open (in Atlanta), or any position that I can get a head start right before I earn my degree. I saw a person from my home store today and they suggested job fairs to be able to talk to someone about HR, and that is how I came to this page. Now that I am here, is there any path I could be jumping on or advice that you might be able to share with me? I would love anything that you have that could help.

      Hi Jennifer and thank you for your great question, and your service and loyalty to our company! EAP is a very small department with little turnover, so I recommend opening up your search to all of HR. Look for Hourly Support positions in HR (positions that do not require a degree, but are great for gaining experience and getting your foot in the door at corporate). Bear in mind, though, that most of the Human Resources openings will be in Lakeland. Best of luck to you!

        Thanks for your reply, Maura! I have looked into it, and the only positions I have found (apart from EAP) are Selection Systems Clerk and Employment Office Clerk that do not require immediate degrees. As you said, I do notice that most positions are in Lakeland, or the Florida area, although, even the ones I find in Atlanta are purely degree-only. Are all the positions in HR, where degrees are not required, small departments, as well? I do not know if that is what you mean by checking for hourly support or I am not looking at the correct positions, my apologies. This is also the first real information I have gotten in a long time, my managers seem to drag it out for me. So, I would like to make sure I have it correct.

          Hi Jennifer, let’s see if I can clarify the information for you. The areas you call “small departments” are considered sub-departments of H.R. and I think it’s a relative term. Personnel Records is pretty large in terms of the number of associates it has and there are frequent job postings for that area. I’m sorry I didn’t make the term “Checking for hourly support” more clear. It’s an inside term here =). What I’m referring to are those positions listed with a title, then “Hourly Support 3″ or some other number after it. I just checked and for internal candidates there are six open right now. Hourly Support associates provide a wide variety of administrative assistance to the corporate, distribution and manufacturing departments in which they work. There are up to 7 different levels of Hourly Support, based on the complexity of each job. When Hourly Support openings occur, they are listed at http://publix.jobs/CurrentOpenings. It is one way to get your foot in the door in a support role and there are a few Hourly Support roles at the Division and event occasionally at the District level. Unfortunately, few of them are in Human Resources. I hope this helps, Jennifer and feel free to come back if you have any other questions.

    Hi

    I went in to the job fair for the new Winston-Salem, NC store on the first day. I got a call to come in for a second interview a few days later and it went well. At the end of the interview the person I interviewed with said “That even if I didn’t hear back from them after two weeks that I shouldn’t get discouraged. It just means that I didn’t get in with the first wave. The Point is don’t get discouraged.” Well as of today its been about a month and I know the store opens on May 11th. So needless to say, I am getting worried because I thought for sure that I had this interview nailed and with my 12 years of retail experience (9 of those years in Grocery experience) I was so hopeful and so confident that I would be hired. Did I misread the situation totally? Any information, advice, or words of comfort that you could offer would be appreciated.

      Hi Charles, they continue to staff the Winston-Salem location so hang in there. And even if the store opens before you are hired, be sure to return to the JAC once it is open and update your application to keep it active and accessible by the manager.     You only keep their applications for 30 days and you are the only business where you have to come in the store to apply…. if you can’t keep your applications for more than 30 days, at least allow applicants to apply on line.. it was a few days over the 30 days and I was told I had to come in and do another application and that did not make any sense..

      Hi Denise, I can understand your frustration, but there are several reasons we ask job-seekers to apply in person at one of our stores. You can read more about our rationale behind that decision here: http://bit.ly/10xyjNm. As for your submission, you can log in and update your application without having to resubmit fully. It is inactive because the store’s managers can not view it. Hope this helps.
