Seasonal opportunities in our stores

Publix store associate - Front Service ClerkMany Publix stores are located in areas that have tourist seasons.   When these visitors arrive, our delis and bakeries get busier, our shelves need to be restocked more often, and all checkout lanes are opened.  As a result, we need more employees to handle the load.

We hire hundreds of temporary associates each year to handle these peak seasons.  They work for three months in the winter, spring or summer, depending on which season the tourists arrive.  Nearly 50 stores are involved in our seasonal staffing program, and more join each year.

The program benefits Publix, of course.  But it also provides opportunities for people seeking temporary work at a good company or for people who want to get their foot in the door at Publix since some high-performing seasonal associates are invited to become permanent associates.

You must be at least 18 years old to participate.  You must be a person with a passion for serving people.  And you must be able to offer Publix night and weekend availability, since those are our busiest hours.   Seasonal positions often include Bakery Clerk, Cashier, Deli Clerk, Front Service Clerk (Bagger), Grocery Clerk, Meat Clerk, Produce Clerk, and Seafood Clerk.

To learn more about the seasonal employment opportunities in your area, please visit our website at www.publix.jobs/seasonal.

          Hi Karina!

Hiring decisions in the store are handled solely by the store managers. Have you talked with a manager in each of the Publix stores you would like to work? That might help your chances.

    Greetings,
We have a Publix opening soon in Gardendale, AL (Magnolia City Place Plaza) and I wanted to know if a date for the job fair has been set? I keep looking for information in various places but have had no success.

    Thank you,

I applied at kiosk and also went to 6 local stores to hand out my hard copy resume. I updated every 30 days, but no luck, could not even get an interview. I go to my local store to still shop and it seems like assis. manager i talked with dodges me if he sees me. I have no hard feelings, it’s kinda funny to me, i keep hearing “you have to know someone who works at store to get hired” or “they only hire younger people”.
I see lots of new people at store, (all ages), just don’t know if i applied at wrong time. I will give it another try soon, maybe, just maybe i will get called in. Trying to be positive :-)

You have a great attitude! I know it’s difficult to be persistent and not achieve your goal. And you are taking all the right steps. Stores might hire young people for baggers and cashiers because that’s often the only place they can work. But age is not a factor in hiring across the full store. Please don’t take the assistant manager’s actions personally. Our managers have a hard time with the fact that they can’t hire all of the wonderful people who apply and sometimes don’t know how to handle it. One thing I would advise is to retake the assessment on your application. You can do that every six months. Your score could be a factor in why others are being hired over your. Have a great day!

There may be nothing wrong. We attract hundreds of applicants to each store, so managers have a lot of people to choose from. Make sure you stop by and talk with a manager in a department where you want to work to let them know why you would make a great Publix associate. That might help.

OK patti, thanks for advice on assessment, I will try again as you suggested. I don’t have retail experience but I would like to learn, but I do have customer service experience helping inside sales reps on strict deadlines.

    Hi,

I am new to the east coast and visited my first Publix this weekend. As a “wine-o” I was very excited about the eclectic wine selection one of the stores in Key west had to offer. While browsing the 3 isles I was wondering if Publix has a wine buyer and if you hired specifically for these stores.
Without trying to put it all out there on a blog (lol) I have a great resume with experience in Napa, CA as well as an extensive wine education. I was hoping to get some advice as to getting into a career such as wine buying for a great market like Publix.

    Thank you for your time!

We will Store Managers openings by promoting from within. To start in our stores, you need to take an hourly position. If you have previous grocery, deli, meat, or bakery management experience, talk to the Store Manager after applying. He or she will be able to give you the best advice for that market area.

      Hi German,

Keep trying! It’s important to keep your application updated every 30 days. Try speaking with the Store Manager the next time you update your application.

      Good luck,
