I’ve been trying for the past 2 months which is exactly when I graduated from Valencia College with my A.S. Degree in Baking And Pastry Management to get a job in the bakery at Publix for any position. I constantly update my application, I’ve visited several Publix’s in the Kissimmee area. Starting to feel discouraged, I always speak to the managers to but I always seem to get the same not currently hiring reply. I stopped by Publix Sabor and I heard about them needed a Bakery Clerk, I’ve spoken with the assistant manager and even gave her my resume twice within this past week since the store manager has been on vacation. I’m really hoping that I can be hired I would like to work for a great company and explore and expand my knowledge and experience with Baking and Pastry. – Shalissa

Hi, and thank you for your message. I know it can be frustrating to apply and not get invited for an interview. It sounds like you are doing the right things (visiting the stores in Kissimmee). I’d suggest you send your resume and indicate the store at which you applied to LaTarsha.Melvin@publix.com . She is our recruiter for that area and might be able to offer some insight to you.

Hi, you will be contacted for a second interview if you are among those considered most suited for the position. In the meantime, it may take some of the pressure off if you apply for other positions for which you meet the required qualifications and are interested in.

Is there a need for Decorators apprentices? I am currently a Full-time Customer Service Staff and am desperately trying to get into the bakery somewhere in Orlando. I have been Job Class Trained as a Bakery Clerk but the bakery in my current store doesn’t have a need for the bakery right now.

I apologize for the delay in responding, Aykayangel! We’ve been having technical difficulties with our site but I think they’re all resolved now. Your best bet is to reach out to Debbie.White@Publix.com . She is the recruiter for the stores in the Orlando area and will be your best resource for information on openings over in that area. Best of luck to you!

We suggest applying at one of the stores in that area and then sending her an email to let her know at which store you applied and of your particular interest in Cake Decorator positions. Thank you.

Hi, Renee, I’m so sorry I didn’t reply sooner… I did a quick look and saw there are openings in Orlando, Longwood and Sandord. I’m not sure if any of these are close enough, but you may want to send Debbie.White@Publix.com an email with “Cake Decorator – Experienced – Winter Springs, Lake Mary, Casselberry” in the subject line and include a brief overview or resume of your experience. She is our Retail Staffing Specialist for that area and may know of specific needs. I would also advise that you go ahead and apply so your application is in the system. Best of luck to you!

    Hello Maura,
My name is Koffi. I talked to you a couple of weeks ago about my intention to work at a Finance department or something related to Accounting. You suggested to me to send my resume to Julie Rodhen. However, for about six weeks, I did not hear from here. What should I do?

      Maura Satchell November 3, 2015 at 9:58 am #

Hi, Koffi, I checked and confirmed that Julie has replied to your email. She will be the one best able to assist you.

Hi, I am a cake decorator and baker and would love to work for Publix bakery. Can you tell me if any Publix bakeries are hiring in Acworth, Dallas, Hiram, Kennesaw, Marietta Georgia? I have worked for Ingels and Super Target bakeries. I would prefer a cake decorating position but just working in the bakery would be fantastic.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Holly, that’s awesome to hear! Our store’s hiring needs change from day to day and I suggest you head over to your nearest (or favorite) Publix and apply in person at the Job Application Center kiosk there. Afterwards, speak with the store manager or department manager and advise that you have applied and recount your experience for them and the shifts that you are available. You should also repeat this meet and greet process with managers at the other nearby stores after applying as they have access to your application too and may have a need the first store doesn’t. Here are a few more tips: bit.ly/LandBlog . Best of luck to you!

  11. hollyrenee January 7, 2016 at 4:27 am #

Thank you for the advice. Do I need to apply at the kiosk at each store?
    Holly

      Maura Satchell January 7, 2016 at 12:46 pm #

No, you only need to apply at one store. When you visit other stores, mention at which store you applied. And remember to update your application each 30 days to keep it active.

    Hi Maura Satchell,
Are there any openings for the bakery or cake decorators in the Lakeland area? If so, besides placing my application at the store whom do I email my resume to – my background is 25+ years in administration and customer service but my passion has always been customer service, baking and cooking. I feel my written resume holds me back from this position when others read due to my years of service have been administration, sales and customer service related vs. baking. I went to the Wilton Cake school over 25+ years and when first out used to bake, decorate and sell cakes for extra money over the years just have done for family and friends but have always taken classes in baking and cooking with Publix Aprons Cooking School (over 30+) in Lakeland, Sur la Table, other hands-on places over the years and online cooking schools for full course work – America’s Online Cooking School & udemy.com – Online Pastry School. Living in Lakeland most of my life Publix is my life line. My daughter works for Publix. My sister-in-law worked for Publix. Many friends and acquaintances work for Publix why I am just starting to begin my career is a true mystery but it is never to late to take wonderful experiences and share with the community and fabulous customers to become a partner in such a family of a company with the passion and skills I truly love. Any insight and direction would truly be appreciated. Thank you for your valuable time. Natalee

    • Maura Satchell May 19, 2016 at 10:24 am #

I apologize for the delay in replying, Natalee! And thank you so much for sharing your story and your interest in joining Publix! It sounds like you have a real passion for culinary and, in particular baking and cake decorating, which is wonderful! We have several different positions in our bakeries and a clear career path to either Decorator or Baker from those roles. Have you applied? If not, that’s your first step. Visit your favorite nearby Publix and submit your application in person at the Job Application Center kiosk in that store. After applying, ask at Customer Service to speak with a manager. Advise him or her that you’ve applied, share details about your culinary classes and passion for baking, cooking and customer service, and share why you’d make a great associate. Then, ask if there are any current openings in that store in the bakery or deli areas or if they forsee any in the near future. There may be no critical openings posted, but there may be some coming. After this conversation, stop in at other stores and repeat your “elevator pitch.” If there are no openings or anticipated openings, just head back to the store at which you applied within 30 days of your original application and update it (which only takes a few moments), to keep it active so Managers can view it. Then stop back in those stores occasionally to remind the managers of your application and your interest in joining Publix. I hope this helps and wish you the best of luck. Apologies again for the delayed reply!

Thank you so much for the feedback. I will keep my positive attitude and my spirit bright as I was offered a position with Whole Foods Market this week but I just did not feel it was the right connection for me and my future. The hourly pay seemed to be higher than what I know Publix (in store) to be but I just have a passion and my heart is set on working and growing with Publix as a partner. I didn’t want to make a move in my career knowing I really wanted to be somewhere else delighting customers. Is there an email address in the Lakeland / Central Florida area to send or reach out to for the bakery or cake decorating as I see in the other areas? Thank you once again for your help. Natalee

        • Maura Satchell May 19, 2016 at 3:40 pm #

Yes, Natalee, and it’s my pleasure to assist you, by the way! And one more suggestion: Check the Critical Openings to see if there are any needs at the stores in your area. You’ll find them here: bit.ly/StoreCOs. And you can reach out to LaTarsha.Melvin@Publix.com. Best of luck and fingers crossed.

            Ms. Maura Satchell,
I just wanted to take a moment and say, “Thank you for taking the time to be so pleasant and answering all of us asking question after question.” Thank you for the ‘luck’ and the ‘fingers crossed’ I will take the good well wishes and give them out to the universe and keep pushing forward and practicing my talents and skills until I get my toe in the door to become a Publix partner in a position to grow. Until then my loyalties will always continue to be with Publix as a customer and a mom to a fantastic Publix partner whom is living the dream and building her career (which is most important and makes me very proud).
Thank you once again just wanted to let you know your feedback and comments are valued and needed while we on the outside are doing all we are able to become a part of the team on the inside. Natalee Stewart

Aww… I’m blushing, Natalee. =) Thank you and have a wonderful day.

    Hello,

I have been very interested in becoming a decorator for Publix. I have been decorating cakes for over 7 years and i’m certified with Wilton as well.I love making cakes and decorating them especially the handmade flowers from gum paste and fondant that’s my favorite! I see it says Melbourne, Fl is hiring but it was posted a year ago? How do I know if they are still hiring. I have been trying to get my foot in the door for years with Publix but was always pushed away my the current decorators that I would talk to at my local Publix. Thank you and any information would help!

    • Maura Satchell May 19, 2016 at 10:09 am #

Thank you for your great question! Have you applied yet? If not, that’s your first step. You can do so at your nearest store’s Job Application Center kiosk. Afterwards, speak with a store manager to let him or her know you’ve applied in response to that Critical Opening posted on our website, and bring a portfolio of your past creations. If you are able to produce your works with some degree of speed, stress that since it is important in a retail environment where decorators can churn out attractive, professional-quality decorated cakes in a short amount of time. Also ask, if the manager indicates he’s not hiring at this time, if he anticipates any openings in the near future. After speaking with the store manager at that store, visit other nearby stores and repeat the speaking process, citing your name and the store at which you submitted your application. Best of luck to you and check back in if you’d like here on this post.
