Another great year at Publix

Every year our associates actively work toward achieving one goal – to be the premier quality food retailer in the world.  Now that another year has passed, it’s time to take a look at how we did in 2012 to achieve that goal.

I could share with you what a great employer Publix is, how much opportunity there is to grow and develop, and the wonderful people you will meet, but instead I thought I would list a number of developments that occurred last year and let you evaluate if this is a place you would like to work.

  • What did the number 23 mean to Publix in 2012? No, I’m not talking about the number Michael Jordan wore on his jersey but rather the number of stores we opened across five states.  Considering we employ about 135 associates per store, that means we added more than 3,000 retail positions last year.
  • Also, in 2012, we announced plans to expand into North Carolina, our sixth state.  We will open two stores in the Charlotte area in 2014.
  • We extended our customer service beyond our stores and our website by creating a Social Media department.  The team operates our Publix Facebook page and two Twitter accounts for the company.
  • Publix is keenly interested in helping our associates and our customers live healthier lifestyles.  To that end, we created the company’s first In-Store Dietician position and our first Manager of Associate Wellness position.
  • In two Florida areas, we rolled out our Aprons Event Planning Catering services, which will cover everything from customized menus to on-site meal preparation, venue organization, and serving staff.

Last but not least, here are a few awards we received in 2012:

  • FORTUNE magazine’s 100 Best Companies To Work For (16th consecutive year)
  • IDG Computerworld 100 Best Places to Work in IT (8th consecutive year)
  • Highest-ranking supermarket for customer satisfaction according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index (18th consecutive year)
  • Number one on J.D. Power and Associates’ Customer Satisfaction Index Rating for retail pharmacies
  • Inc. magazine’s list of the Fastest Growing Private Companies
