While Americans still love their bacon and steaks, their interest in plant-based proteins is growing. A recent study from the market research firm Nielsen finds 39 percent of Americans are actively seeking new ways to add protein to their diets with legumes, nuts and seeds.
Regardless of their source of protein, the study finds Americans are looking to limit or remove processed foods from their diet. They’re on a quest for labels like all-natural, antibiotic-free and no artificial preservatives. This has food manufacturers taking a hard look at their current product lines to see where plant-based proteins and natural ingredients can replace their processed counterparts.
