As we get closer to the end of the year and begin counting down to midnight, celebrate the holiday by making a few easy DIY crafts. Kids are sure to love playing with paper sparkler fireworks and party poppers while wearing their cute, watercolor party hats.
Sparkler Fireworks
You’ll need:
- Jumbo straws in various colors
- Paper or cellophane paper in various colors
- Tin foil
- Tape
- Scissors
Steps:
- Choose two colors of paper or cellophane and place a piece of tin foil between those sheets.
- Fold the layers in half lengthwise.
- Cut strips into the folded length about ¾ of the way, making sure not to cut all the way to the folded line.
- Wrap the uncut portion of the paper around the top of the jumbo straw and use tape to seal.
- Open the layers and fan out to create a firework effect.
Party Hats
You’ll need:
- White construction paper
- Watercolor paint
- A paintbrush
- A cup of water for watercolor paint
- Tissue paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Ribbon
- A tassel
Steps:
- Place the piece of white construction paper lengthwise.
- Starting a few inches from the top, cut out a curved line across the page until you reach the other side. The curved edge at the bottom will become the bottom of your hat.
- Use your watercolors to paint the outside of the paper and let it dry.
- Wrap the dry paper around your head in a cone-like shape to measure how large it needs to be and glue the seam to seal the hat together.
- Glue one piece of ribbon to both sides of the cone to create your strap.
- Glue the tassel to the top of the hat.
Party Poppers
You’ll need:
- Balloons in various colors
- Tape
- Construction paper in various colors and designs
- Stickers
- Confetti
- Empty toilet paper rolls
Steps:
- Tie a knot at the end of the balloon. At the opposite end, use scissors to cut off the tip of the balloon.
- Place the cut end of the balloon over a toilet paper roll and secure with tape.
- Decorate the outside of the toilet paper roll with construction paper and stickers.
- Place two scoops of confetti inside the open end of the toilet paper roll.
- Pull back the end of the balloons and let them pop!
