History and Fun Facts
- Unlike what most people believe, tulips are not native to Holland. Tulips are native to Central Asia and Turkey.
- The most popular times to find tulips are from mid-April through mid-May – just in time for Mother’s Day!
- Tulips are in the same family as another favorite spring flower — the lily. The Liliaceae family also contains onions, garlic and asparagus.
Caring for Your Tulips
Choose a tall vase because tulips continue to grow after they are cut. They also bend and move toward sources of sunlight, but avoid placing them in direct sunlight. Tulips last longer in cool room temperatures. They require cold and clean water after placing them in a vase. Change the water every day. This will improve the longevity of your cut tulips.
