Hello 2017! It’s a new year, and you probably have another set of resolutions. These are often promises we make, that unfortunately become hard to keep. Truth be told, many of us kiss our resolutions goodbye before Valentine’s day even rolls around.
Rather than rattling off a to-do list, we’ve got a few suggestions of what not to do this year. No matter what you pledge to complete in 2017, try avoiding these common mistakes to help bring your goals to reality.
Setting Unrealistic Resolutions
New year, new me! We’ve all heard this expression before, maybe you’re even guilty of uttering these words yourself. As exciting as it may be to embark on a new journey, it’s important to set attainable goals. You may hope to run a marathon by March, but if you’re just beginning, that bar may be set too high. It can also be trouble when you goal binge. This common mistake of making too many goals at once is hazardous to a successful year. To avoid spreading yourself too thin, pick one task to focus on. Goals take time. Creating too many or vowing to complete something too difficult can cause you to lose focus. Don’t fall short of your goals—be realistic.
Not Creating a Plan
Take the time to put thought into your objective and how you will attain it. Whether you set daily, weekly, or monthly plans, it’s important to stick to them. Knowing what you need to do each day to reach your goal will make you more successful. Holding yourself accountable is key to achieving your desires.
Giving in to Temptation
Avoiding temptation is much easier said than done, right? Don’t let old habits sneak back into your life. Having a plan or timeline will help you avoid falling back into old routines. Temptations will arise, but how you handle them is important. As much as you want to splurge and buy “that dress” in your favorite store, think of how happy you’ll be when you’re that much closer to reaching your savings goal! Change is a process, and you’re just starting—don’t stress if you give in. Regretting a lapse in judgement will only make things worse. Simply brush it off, jump back on the train and focus on the outcome.
Not Tracking Your Progress
As imperative as it is to create a plan, it’s also important to track your progress. The “real world” will most likely come into play, but if you’ve been tracking your progress you will be able to see what is needed to complete your goal. Even if it’s a small success in the grand scheme of your final plan, it’s still important! You should recognize yourself no matter how big or small the feat.
Keeping Your Goals a Secret
Scream, yell, shout it from the rooftop! Well maybe not literally, but we do encourage you to tell those around you what you hope to achieve in 2017. Your loved ones will help hold you accountable for your actions (or lack thereof). You might be tempted to eat that jelly-filled donut, but your co-workers will be there to hand you an apple instead! Friends and family often have the same goal, which can help you stay on track together.
It’s always our goal to provide premier customer service, and we hope to make this year even better! What do you hope to achieve in 2017?
