It’s scallop season here in the south and we’re ready! If you’re not diving for your own, don’t worry, Publix has you covered. Our seafood department has a variety of scallop options available. Scallops are a popular seafood item because of their soft texture and sweet flavor.
Preparing Scallops at Home
Scallops can be baked, grilled, sautéed or broiled. Many are intimidated to cook these mollusks due to their delicate texture and short cooking time. Overcooking will create a rubbery texture, but we’re here to help you avoid that! Try these tips when serving your next seafood dish.
Sauté: Heat large sauté pan on medium. Season scallops with preferred seasoning. Melt 5 tablespoons garlic/herb butter in pan; add scallops. Cook 4 to 5 minutes, turning occasionally, until firm and opaque. For a mouthwatering recipe, make our Teriyaki Scallops.
Broil: Heat oven to broil. Season scallops with preferred seasoning and 1 tablespoon olive oil. Place in single layer on baking sheet; broil 4 to 6 minutes until opaque and firm. Want some recipe inspiration? Try Crouton-Crusted Scallops.
Grilled: Heat grill (or grill pan) to medium-high. Thread scallops onto skewers. Sprinkle with seasoning, then coat with olive oil or cooking spray. Grill skewers 2 to 3 minutes on each side until grill-marked and scallops are opaque and firm. Try our Peach and Scallop Skewer recipe for a unique flavor explosion.
Baked: Heat oven to 375 F. Coat baking dish with 1 tablespoon butter. Season scallops. Bake 12 to15 minutes or until scallops are opaque and firm. For a delicious recipe try our Baked Scallop Scampi.
