If you’ve ever had a pet pass away, you know how hard it can be to overcome such a devastating loss because our pets are our family. This leads us into this month’s Mr. George Gold Coin Award recipient. Customer Service Staff member Alisa King from Store #1055 in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, received the Mr. George Gold Coin Award for going above and beyond her normal duties at work. We found out about her good deed from Tiffany, a customer at Store #1055 since it opened in 2007, who emailed our customer care team with a touching story that we just had to share with our readers.

While shopping, Tiffany was on the phone with her husband, in tears because they were talking about their beloved 12-year-old dog who just passed away. Tiffany made her way to the customer service counter, where she met Alisa. Alisa greeted her with a bubbly, “Hi! How can I help you today?” Tiffany, visibly shaken from her sadness, began to cry. “She exited from behind the Customer Service counter and came to the front and gave me a big hug, when I started to cry,” Tiffany shared with us.

Alisa compassionately asked Tiffany to tell her about her dog and show her all the pictures she had. “I showed her photos we had taken with her at the beach the previous day, and Alisa showed me photos of her older dog and shared that she thought she was going to be in a similar situation soon.” Alisa asked for her address before Tiffany left.

“Sure enough, a few days later, I received a Hallmark card from Alisa, in which she wrote at length, incredibly eloquently and sensitively on all sides of the card. I was bowled over that this person I had met for five minutes in the grocery store, showed me such over-the-top kindness,” Tiffany told us.

Alisa’s actions in the store were exceptional, but to go above and beyond and send Tiffany a card after just meeting her was more than Tiffany could ever imagine. She shared, “I will remember this woman and how she gave me her shoulder and lifted me up for the rest of my life.” Tiffany followed up with us and let us know that she photographed all sides of the card and sent it to her family and close friends.

Tiffany ended her email by saying, “We all need to try to behave even just a little bit more like Alisa. I congratulate Publix for having the insight to hire her. The world needs more Alisa Kings.”

We couldn’t agree more. The world needs more Alisa Kings.
