Our Social Media and Customer Care teams receive hundreds of calls, emails and social messages every day. Often, they’re inquiries about products sold in our stores or questions about store procedures and policies. They also receive wonderful stories about our associates. A customer, Erin, had just relocated to Georgia and called our Customer Care team with very kind words about Produce Manager Jesse Olive from Store #816 in McDonough, Georgia.

The Story

During her move to Georgia, Erin’s moving company backed out at the last minute. Because of this and other recent events, time and money were tight for her and her three children. During a recent shopping trip to Store #816, one of Erin’s daughters lost her pacifier, which left her daughter in tears. Produce Manager, Jesse Olive, heard the crying from a few aisles over. Having children of his own, he immediately knew something was wrong. He walked over to help and asked Erin if she was looking for something. She told him that her daughter lost her binky.

Jesse scoured the Produce department and the rest of the store but didn’t find the pacifier. However, he didn’t return to Erin empty-handed. Jesse brought her a package of pacifiers from the aisle and gave her daughter one from the package. Despite her offer, Jesse would not let Erin pay for them. Erin told us, “Good things like this don’t happen to us very often.” She thanked Jesse and told him how much it meant to her and her family. She told him about her recent move and the difficulty with the moving company. When she was finished shopping, Jesse found her at the front of the store and gave Erin a $25 gift card. He told Erin, “This is from our store to you. Thank you for shopping with us!” Erin shared, “What he did is never going to leave me. What he’s done for the name of Publix has earned this store location and Publix a customer for life due to his gratitude.”

About Jesse

Jesse started with Publix in 1997. We asked him what receiving the Mr. George Gold Coin Award meant to him. “I’m very humbled and honored to receive it. I met Mr. George when he was alive and knew how much he valued his customers and associates.” Jesse’s favorite part about his current position with Publix is leading his team in day-to-day operations. His passion is to help associates grow and become successful in their careers. Once voted “Most Spirited” in high school, Jesse loves to spread his positive attitude to his customers ensuring that they’re satisfied with the level of service in his department and the high quality of products put onto the sales floor. When he’s not working, Jesse loves to relax, spend time with his family and enjoys vacationing. One of his favorite activities outside of work is going to car events with his custom 2005 Toyota Scion xB.
