This month’s Mr. George Gold Coin Award recipient is Shavon from Store #1533 in New Bern, NC. She started with Publix in 2016 and has been proud to bring the Publix culture to her customers and fellow associates. With her self-proclaimed super power, smiling, Shavon helped a customer Kristy. During last year’s Thanksgiving season, Kristy had a minor fall at her home and twisted her knee. While she was doing her weekly shopping, Shavon, a Grocery Replenishment Specialist noticed that she was limping and asked what happened. Kristy explained, and Shavon offered the customer her phone number and told her to call if there was anything she could assist with anytime. She specifically put anytime so that Kristy knew that she was always willing to help with whatever was needed.
After the New Year, Kristy fell ill and needed help with her regular shopping. With family no longer around, she remembered Shavon’s offer and gave her a call. During the time Kristy was ill, Shavon personally shopped for her, brought her groceries to her home and unloaded the groceries for her. Kristy was elated with Shavon’s generosity and willingness to help.
Shavon helped Kristy and did not mention it to anybody in the store. She’s a very passionate associate and embodies all of the traits that Mr. George wanted for Publix associates to aspire to be. When we asked Shavon what receiving the Mr. George Gold Coin Award meant to her, she told us it meant more than she could ever imagine or describe. Her favorite thing about working with Publix is the impact she has on people’s lives because nothing is too big or too small.
We couldn’t be happier to recognize Shavon for going above and beyond while a customer (and now, friend) was in need of assistance.
