If you’re tired of hitting replay on the same old salad, push shuffle to remix your leafy dish! Avoid the boring and bland by pumping up your salad with these easy tips.

Mix It Up!

With the many pre-packaged selections available in our Produce department, it’s easy to grab a variety of greens. Lettuce options extend much further than iceberg and romaine. Many types of greens offer their own health benefits. Some delicious leafy greens you might not be as familiar with are Red Leaf Lettuce, Arugula, and Watercress. To add variety to your bowl, simply mix ‘em up! Not only will you get a range of nutrients, but your taste buds will have a nice spread of flavors, too. To add even more pizzazz, ditch the salad bowl and stuff your salad in a pita or an edible tortilla bowl, like this Southwestern Chicken Salad!

Adding protein will help to keep you full and provide a savory bite to your green meal. Protein doesn’t have to be just chicken, you can pump up the protein by adding items such as salmon, egg, tofu, and edamame ― the list is endless! Have leftover steak from last night’s dinner? Chop it up and mix it into your midday meal.

Dynamic Texture

5_22_SW Remix Salad_Image 3Lettuce already provides a crunch to your salad, but adding a variety of textures like sliced almonds or shredded carrots will help satisfy your cravings. Sauté peppers and onions for a great taste and unique texture. Adding avocado or egg provides a smoother, simpler taste to your salad. Combining different items, hot and cold, makes every bite a little bit different, and that’s part of the goodness! Our Shrimp Tostada Salad gives you all the mixture and variety you need for a dramatic taste.

Sprinkle the Color

Monotone salads are a thing of the past! Toss in a variety of hues when making your next meal. Fruits and veggies are filled with nutrients and are great additions to any meal. Add corn or chop up some red and yellow peppers to add bright colors. If you’re pressed for time, just toss in some dried fruits like cranberries or apricots.

Dressing

With so much flavor packed into your salad, you won’t need much to top it off. Using oil-based salad dressings provide a mild flavored alternative. Freshly squeezed lemon can give it a zesty taste. If you’re short on supplies or are looking for a new flavor to add to your green dish, try a bolder dressing like ginger. Topping your salad with the right dressing is just as important as icing a cake. With so many options, you can try something new every day!

There are endless combinations that can be made when whipping up a salad. What’s your favorite combo?
