The summer feeling might be winding down, but the fun doesn’t have to! Whether you are gathered around the fire or at the kitchen table, we’ve got the tips to help you make a delicious treat that will have the whole family wanting “s’more.”

S’mores are gooey, chocolatey, 8_10_SW_Smores_image 2crunchy morsels of deliciousness. The best part? They only call for three ingredients: Graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows. It’s a trifecta of tastes. Building your own dessert is always fun and often budget-friendly. Best of all, when you’re done, you get to eat what you’ve created—an edible masterpiece!

Cooking Methods

Roasting marshmallows over an open fire is the customary start to making these choco-licious treats; however, a campfire isn’t necessary to satisfy your s’more craving. Ovens, cast iron skillets and even microwaves have become an increasingly popular way to whip up this layered delight.

If you choose to use one of these unconventional methods, the preparation is simple.

For ovens: Preheat to broil. Carefully split a graham cracker in two, down the seam, and place the halves side by side on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Next, top one cracker with chocolate, and the other with 8_10_SW_Smores_image 3marshmallows. Broil until the chocolate has melted, and your marshmallow starts to brown. Keep an eye on everything to make sure it doesn’t burn.  Remove from oven, and let cool slightly.  Flip one side onto the other and press together. All that’s left to do is eat!

For cast iron skillets: With a skillet, you can use traditional chocolate pieces or you can substitute chocolate chips. Place the chocolate in the bottom of the pan and top with your favorite marshmallows. Next, you can place the skillet in the oven or heat on low on the stove-top to melt the ingredients until they are warm and gooey. Scoop your s’mores mixture onto graham crackers and you’re ready to enjoy.

For microwaves: Layer a graham cracker half with your favorite chocolate in a microwave-safe dish and top it off with a marshmallow. Cook in 10-second increments until your marshmallow begins to puff. Remove from the microwave, add your second graham cracker to the top, let cool and enjoy!
